Terminal at the crossroads of national and international connections

The Tiel/Rivierenland junction, thanks to its location at the crossroads of important national and international connections, forms a hub in the network of major logistics flows. This is true of its location on the A15 motorway and major international waterways, where CEMT class Va vessels can tranship in the industrial port of Tiel.

Besides Tiel, other nearby towns with industrial estates serving a supra-municipal function, such as Culemborg, Zaltbommel, and Geldermalsen, also play a role in the region’s logistics hub. These towns are collectively part of the Rivierenland region. This regional partnership comprises the eight municipalities of Buren, Culemborg, Maasdriel, Neder-Betuwe, Tiel, West Betuwe, West Maas en Waal, and Zaltbommel. Tiel is considered the region’s logistics hub due to its strategic location along both the highway and waterway networks. Tiel distinguishes itself from other logistics hubs in the Netherlands by its central location. This offers the advantage, particularly for national distribution, of being able to reach the entire country within a relatively short time.

Logistics hub in the Tiel region

The Tiel hub is the logistics center of the region and consists of two large logistics areas: Kellen and Medel. Kellen is located on the west side of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, while Medel is on the east side. Kellen is home to a diverse mix of companies, some of which are water-based companies focused on bulk transport. Medel has a relatively high level of logistics activity, including XXL logistics. This makes it an attractive region for companies to establish themselves.
