First electric truck for Van Berkel Groep

Sustainability is woven into our corporate culture. We respond to market demands by doing things differently because they can be done smarter or better. That is why we are constantly working on innovations that make our services even more sustainable, effective and efficient. The purchase of the Volvo FH Electric 4×2 truck is the next step in our sustainable operations.

Our roofs are full of solar panels so that we operate energy-neutral, we collect rainwater for reuse and the electrification of our machinery is expanding all the time. For instance, we already have an all-electric granulate plant and electric gantry cranes. The new Volvo is the first electric truck in our machinery fleet. Electric cranes will also be added this year.

Volvo FH Electric 4×2 truck

We are one of the first in the Netherlands to deploy an electric truck for transporting containers to and from our logistics customers. But the truck can also be used, for example, as a walking floor truck for delivering soil improvers. The truck has a maximum permissible train weight of up to 44 tonnes, a power of up to 490 kW and a range of up to 300 kilometres on a single battery charge. That is more than enough for a trip up and down to the seaport.

We are currently charging the truck with our own facilities. We hope the grid congestion will be resolved soon so that truck charging infrastructure can be realised in the Netherlands. That way, our industry can take further steps in the electrification of its machinery.

Sustainability goals

As Van Berkel Group, we are certified for level 5 of the CO2 performance ladder and structurally reduce our CO2 emissions. We do this by continuously investigating initiatives. If possible, we apply them in our daily operations and in the execution of projects. We also join sector and chain initiatives. In this way, we not only minimise our impact on the environment, we also increase the environmental awareness of our employees and partners, among others.
