The situation in container liner shipping remains unsettled. Everyone notices that. But what exactly is going on? In the market update we set out our experiences with this situation. We zoom in on the entire chain and how an accumulation of circumstances is affecting the situation in the ports and reducing productivity.
As much as we would like to, transporting parties cannot expand capacity in the seaports. Whereas high productivity at the terminals is desirable for all parties:
- Shipping companies, because ocean vessels and transshipment can be handled faster.
- Terminals, because they can carry out more handlings per 24 hours.
- Hinterland carriers, because waiting times are reduced.
- And last but not least, the cargo stakeholders, so that containers can be returned or retrieved within the stipulated time frame.
